At about 2 PM Companies were dispatched to the area of 29 Madison Avenue for a building fire. Originally thought to be in the Gladstone Manor area the response called for Companies 03 Clifton Heights and 20 Drexel Hill. 19-9 Chief Young and Lansdowne Police quickly realized the call was in the area of the Lansdowne Police station. 19-9 then had the assignment changed to have Companies 16 Yeadon and 24 East Lansdowne to the call. Lansdowne Police arrived and reported a working fire in a store converted to a church at 22 S. Highland Avenue. Companies 03 and 20 were kept on the assignment as well due to the weather being very hot and humid. Engine 19 and 19-9 arrived and reported smoke showing from the middle of a row of stores. Crews from Engine 19 and Ladder 20 quickly went in service with a 1 34 line to extinguish a fire in the rear of the store. Crews made quick work of the fire and began to check for extension in the fire building. Crews from Companies 03 16 and 24 checked the exposures and roof for extension finding none many units were quickly returned to service. Company 19 remained on location for about 90 minutes for overhaul and to assist the Fire Marshall with his investigation. Also on location were units from Fitz Hospital EMS.
